We’re supporting an environmental risk management and industrial hygiene services consultancy that is seeking a Director of operations to lead their team and help shape the future of their office.
As the Director, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing a strategic vision that ensures top-line growth and increased profitability. You will oversee all operational processes, including business development, project management, resource management, quality control, and staff development.

You'll work closely with the leadership team to analyze and improve processes, manage financial performance, and maintain high standards of quality and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Operational:
- Set annual operational budget for office
- Ensure the office is meeting revenue and profitability goals
- Review monthly and quarterly financial statements
- Create and deliver quarterly presentations to the Management Team on office performance as compared to set budgets and the prior year’s performance
- Review and assist in maintaining accounts receivables and ensuring the work-in-progress goals are met
- Implement continuous improvements; analyze and implement corrective and preventative actions to develop our programs and processes
- Manage travel, entertainment, and discretionary spending in local market
- Oversee office maintenance and manage supply inventories and equipment
- Review and oversee client contracts in conjunction with Contract Administrator
- Attend required training, monitor staff attendance
Business Development:
- Drive sales by being a leader in encouraging a proactive business development and business growth culture, including proactive customer calls and meetings as well as attending industry professional organizations and events
- Develop strategic growth plans, including identification of industry sectors and service lines that will provide avenues for growth
- Work with other Directors and Business Development staff to share client leads and facilitate client development
- Assign and track local office BD activities along with individual participation
- Set local business development budget
- Deliver and assign appropriate staff to deliver presentations to clients
- Oversee outreach events (tent events, brown bags, etc.)
- Evaluate pricing models and sales efforts in local markets
Technical:
- Act as a company authority in our environmental service disciplines; including asbestos, lead, and mold surveys, indoor air quality evaluations, occupational exposure monitoring etc.
- Keep current with new industry developments and pertinent environmental safety & health legislation
- Identify new service lines specific to local markets
- Implement and monitor staff participation in quality assurance/ quality control program
- Assign and help develop local technical leads by service line
- Establish designated staff to review reports
- Oversee status of equipment (calibration, repair, purchases, etc.)
- Ensure required technical training for employees is complete and relevant certifications and documentation are maintained
- Provide technical support to other offices, as needed (if applicable)
Qualifications:
- Strong operational and business development skills along with personnel leadership, management, and administrative skills
- Previous experience in managing a P&L center with an understanding of financial reporting
- Familiarity with the company’s core consultancy services, including asbestos, lead and mold preferred

- Able to work with little direction and have high initiative and strong organizational skills
- Able to work well with different levels of employees while delivering a professional and engaging manner to clients, colleagues, and public forums
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present and convey complex technical information to a diverse audience
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience with a strong track record of managing and leading successful projects and teams of at least 4 people.
- 2 years of successfully running a profit and loss center.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to develop and manage budgets, track financial performance, and make strategic decisions to ensure profitability and growth
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to travel to different project locations and association events, as needed
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance preferred
- Direct experience working in the environmental services industry
Education/Credential:
- BA degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, Biological or Physical Science preferred
- Membership in applicable industry organizations is a plus AIHA, IDPH etc
